This is the Golden Jubilee of one of mankind's finest achievements- the conquest of the highest mountain in the world. We ask everyone around the world to join us in celebrating the 50th anniversary of this amazing feat in Nepal. 50 years ago history was made on the 29th May 1953. The Mount Everest Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee has great pleasure in announcing that on his recent visit to Nepal the Legendary Mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary has consented to be the Honorary President of the Committee to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the "Conquest of Mount Everest " by late Mr Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary himself on the 29th May 1953. Sir Edmund Hillary has been a well wisher and a very good friend of Nepal from the very first ascent of Mount Everest in 1953. He has worked with selfless devotion for the upliftment of the social and economical strata of the Sherpa community for years, through his Himalayan Trust being a father like figure to them.
Sir Edmund Hillary's association with the Mount Everest Golden Jubilee Celebration would undoubtedly add impetus for the Mega Event to achieve greater heights and success. The celebration is being held for one calendar year starting from June 2002 and ending May 2003 by holding various events and programmes.
